WhatsApp users are now again in danger of falling victim to a horrifying scam. This new fraud can even lock you out of your WhatsApp account by just a phone call. If you make the mistake of picking up this disturbing call from hacker, your WhatsApp account will lock you out. Not only this but the online scammer can take over your account quickly and gain access to your contact list, and even read your chats. Basically if you answer this disturbing call from an online scammer, they can take over your WhatsApp account quickly and easily. Bad part is that in just a matter of minutes an online scammer can carry out this awful attack. The new WhatsApp scam is highlighted by Rahul Sasi, the founder, and CEO of CloudSEk  in a Linkedln post, who explained the consequences of this WhatsApp scam.

How does this WhatsApp scam works?

Your phone number is the starting point of this scam. Once the hacker found your phone number, he/she will call you while using some engineering. Hacker will call WhatsApp users and instruct them to dial a another number in order to receive a benefit or prevent a problem with their bank or other accounts. And everyone who follows the instructions will be locked out of their accounts right away.

Bleeping Computer explained that hackers do send a one-time verification password (OTP) along with the forwarded call. After obtaining this OTP, online scammers can easily gain access to the WhatsApp account by registering it on their smartphone and then activating two-factor authentication.

How to save yourself from this new WhatsApp scam?



Thankfully, there are some ways that can let you protect yourself from this WhatsApp scam and prevent you form getting your account hacked by hackers. Simply just turning on the two factor authentication will help you protect from such online scams.

Though, it is advised to be aware about all the unsolicited texts or phone calls from unknown numbers and not let you get in to the trap. You should never share your personal or financial details with anyone.
